MAKING MEMORIES

In today's day and age we're great at recording memories on our phones, on our cameras and online. We have thousands of images stored and maybe occasionally go through and take the time to look at them, but really, nothing beats having your most treasured pictures, the most special memories there in your hand to take your time to look through. There are so many incredibly affordable ways to get your photos printed off now, notably the hundreds of apps you can get where you pretty much get them for free, that there really is no excuse not to have a collection of hardcopy images hidden away for a rainy day.
I was somewhat inspired by one of my old friends, Joni, who has always been a creative sort, when she shared a lovely Instagram video of her bullet journal/diary/photo album which documented her life month to month, through photos and words - it was gorgeous and gave me the push I needed to send in an order and get cracking. One thing that often stopped me was feeling like I hadn't really done too much that month that would be interesting in an album, but taking a more relaxed approach and treating it like something of a visual diary means you include things you might not have before, a picture of that yummy dinner you made, a beautiful Autumn leaf, a photo of your other half being a weirdo; it's the little things like that really make life what it is, not just the big birthdays, Christmases or weddings, so why not document them?
I bought a simple plain black Moleskine notebook in large and also a Dymo label maker (who hasn't always wanted on of those?) so I can add notes here and there, and I have had some photos printed off at Freeprints and LaLaLab. The polaroid-esque photos in the image above are from LaLaLab and they are lovely, really good quality and sharp images so I would highly recommend giving them a go if you're after some photos.
It's nice, and also important, to give some time to yourself to indulge in something creative, it's something I've been looking into a lot recently, the importance of taking time for yourself, performing a little self-care ritual and giving yourself and your mind the space to reboot, re-energise and be ready to give your best self to others. I am going to be doing a blog post on this topic in general very soon because it's something that has become a big part of my life and one I am excited to explore further, so join me next time for a delve in to all things self-care, meditative and maybe even a little magical.
