IT'S WRITTEN IN THE STARS

Reading about astrology, the stars and the moon, the constellations and star signs, was really the first thing that led me on this spiritual path. I can't actually remember exactly what the first thing I read about this topic was last year, or why it struck a chord with me, but for some reason I was drawn in and haven't been able to look away since. The galaxies above us, the Universe around us, it is an endlessly fascinating treasure trove of information just waiting to be discovered, to help you learn more about yourself, about the world, about why you might have felt a certain way on a certain day back in 2008.

Of course, astrology is a much-misunderstood, and oft-maligned, branch of astronomy, thought to be irrelevant, fluffy, woo-woo and based in none other than nonsense. People base their opinions on the vague, easy-to-interpret daily horoscopes they get on the Daily Mail, declaring they're written just to please everybody and make it so one statement could fit a vast array of different situations, and this is often true. However, the true beauty in astrology is just that, along with tarot reading or psychic readings, it kind of is about how you interpret the information you're getting, as much as it is about the actual information. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but the joy is, allowing yourself to work with the stars, to see the patterns in your behaviour based on what they were doing up there at a certain time, or allowing yourself to be guided by them knowing where they will be, can give you an immense sense of comfort and ease.

Much like religions across the globe, and I don't want to be controversial here, but the real, concrete evidence for the existence of many Gods or Divine leaders is somewhat questionable, yet people all over believe whole-heartedly in the presence of 'something' out there guiding them, helping them, showing them the way, and, well, astrology may even be more 'real' than these? You see, the stars are there, it's a fact, they shine on us night after night after night, they move throughout our solar system constantly, passing each other, opposing each other, working with each other, and who knows, maybe changing the way we feel here on Earth in some way each time they move.

We all know the Moon and her movements truly do affect things here on Earth, we can see it every day in the movement of the tides (and many other creatures are tuned into the moon too - read about it in Supernature, one of my recent spiritual reading list books), so what's to say that the other planets out there don't affect us as well? These are huge, gigantic balls of energy, continually moving around us and causing differing opposing forces, trines, conjunctions all the time. Anyway, I'm certainly no expert yet, those that know a lot about astrology always say it's a constant learning experience and a topic of which you can never know everything about, so I'm miles away from really understanding it yet, but to say I'm pretty fascinated and inspired to learn more would be an understatement.

Have you got a soft spot for astrology? Have you ever looked into your own birth chart, or have you got some interesting reads on the subject to share? Let me know!
