NEW YORK HONEYMOON: DAY TWO

Day two we were up and at 'em early again, thanks jet lag. Not that we minded as it meant we got to make the most of our time and luckily meant we ended up missing any of the crowds (not that there were many at this time of the year). After our fairly relaxed day of wandering around Central Park on day one (don't get me wrong, we still ended up doing something ridiculous like 31,000 steps. We were both broken by the end of the holiday!) we wanted to get started on crossing off some of the major attractions, so we headed south to the Empire State Building. Obviously I was somewhat prepared for stunning and magnificent views, but what I didn't know was how beautiful it was inside! All art-deco marble and Empire State Building mosaics on the wall, as well as some gorgeous Christmas displays in the lobby - it was stunning.

I'm cheating a bit as obviously that picture at the top isn't taken at the Empire State Building (being able to see it and all), this was taken at the top of the Rockefeller but it kind of lets you know what this day consisted of! The views, as expected, were breathtaking. I had to pinch myself a couple of times to remember to take everything in, we really were there! Lots of people said before we went that the Top of the Rock has better views than the Empire State, and while I think I might agree with that having now done both, you can't really go to New York without going up the most iconic building of all, can you?
After we'd spent some time at the top, we of course made the obligatory stop off at the gift shop (conveniently the lift down takes you straight through the gift shop, who'd have thought) and then ventured out to try and find some food. We found a lovely little (very hipster) cafe called Blank Slate where I had the equally hipster avocado on toast with an almond milk coffee. It was a lovely little spot with friendly staff, perfect for a relaxed brunch.
The rest of the day was spent checking off numerous other notable buildings, including Grand Central, the New York Library, the UN building and the Chrysler Building all of which were as stunning as you think they'll be, only better. By about 2.30pm I was seriously flagging (and somewhat hangry) so we decided to head back to the room with a McDonald's (as you do when in New York) to chill out for a bit. Of course, 'chill out' to me means take an hour long nap, whilst listening to the wonderful sounds of America's finest news channels talking endlessly about the new President Trump.

The late afternoon and evening was spent wandering around midtown, finding out where the Rockefeller Centre was (look at the amazing Christmas tree!) and finding the nearest place that did good chicken wings, something that was very high on Nick's priority list. Luckily we ended up finding the best chicken wings of the holiday at Sean's Irish Bar, of all places, where we enjoyed a welcome G&T, some pretzel sticks and insanely good macaroni cheese as well. I clearly couldn't wait to eat before taking a picture, soz. Embracing our wild sides, we then headed back to the hotel and to bed! Honestly, New York is not the place to go if you want a relaxing break, we were knackered! Day two was fantastic though, and we went to sleep excited for the sight of snow in the morning!
